NBA, ABET and every Washington Accord signatory ask an engineering programme the same question in different words: did students attain the outcomes you claim, and what did you do where they did not. That is arithmetic over every assessment your department already sets. Why it goes wrong
Engineering departments do not lack outcome data. They lack it in one place, under one formula.
Every department already computes attainment. It happens in a workbook one senior faculty member owns, in the weeks before a visit, from mark sheets exported term by term. The numbers are usually right. What cannot be shown is how they were arrived at, whether the same threshold was applied in every course, and what actually changed after the last cycle's finding.
So attainment becomes an output of the accreditation cycle instead of an input to teaching. Targets are set once, measured once, and read after the cohort has graduated: too late to be an action, just in time to be a paragraph.

Version the CO-PO matrix with the curriculum
The mapping is approved alongside the curriculum, so it carries a version and an approval date. When a course changes, the matrix that changed with it is the one on the record, not the one in somebody's outbox.

Map assessment to outcomes, not to totals
Each question, rubric row and lab record carries the course outcome it measures, set in the same step where the paper is written. Attainment is then computed from the parts of an assessment that actually test the outcome.

Set the attainment rule once
Thresholds, attainment levels and the direct-to-indirect weighting are defined at programme level and applied to every course, so two departments produce numbers that can sit in the same table.

Compute as marks are entered
Attainment updates during the term rather than after the results are published, so a thin course outcome surfaces while the cohort is still being taught and a revision session is still possible.

Does this support NBA, ABET and Washington Accord outcomes at the same time?
Yes. The outcome model is framework-agnostic: one set of course and programme outcomes is mapped to each framework's attributes.
A single outcome commonly satisfies more than one, so the same attainment supports several submissions rather than being recalculated for each.
Can we keep our own attainment formula?
Yes. Thresholds, attainment levels and the direct-to-indirect weighting are configured at programme level rather than fixed by the software.
What changes is that the rule is stated once and applied to every course, instead of being decided again in each department's workbook.
Do faculty have to map every exam question to an outcome?
Mapping happens at the rubric and question-paper level inside the course, in the same step where the paper is set, so it is part of writing the assessment rather than a separate task.
Once a course's items are mapped, later offerings inherit the mapping and only changed items need attention.
How is indirect assessment handled?
Course-exit, alumni and employer surveys are captured and weighted into programme outcome attainment as a separate, visible component.
An evaluator can read the direct and indirect parts apart, rather than being handed one merged figure and asked to trust it.
Do we have to replace our existing SIS or ERP?
